‘Bharat Ratna’, the highest civilian award of India, was instituted in the year 1954.
Any person without distinction of race, occupation, position or sex is eligible for these awards.
It is awarded for exceptional service towards advancement of Art, Literature and Science, and in recognition of public service of the highest order.

It would be an insult to give Gandhi a Bharat Ratan posthomously as he was beyond this title. Had he been alive and offered such title he would rejected it. Of course, Nobel Prize would have been an appropriate award for him and he was nominated five times, but there is too much politic in it due to American dominance,

Bharata Ratna, instituted in 1954, was meant for living persons. Mahatma Gandhi died in 1948. So he did not get Bharata Ratna. The practice of giving Bharata Ratna to persons dead many years back developed later, in 1990.
Legendary playback singer Md Rafi should get Bharat Ratna this year.In fact he should have recieved it a long time back.
Sachin Tendulkar deserves to get Bharat Ratna please consider regarding it.

Yesudas really deserves Bharat Ratna. Is there any musician who has excelled in both Film playback singing and Classical music? Is there any other singer who has got National awards 7 times(even not Lata mangeshkar who has been awarded Bharat Ratna)? Is there any other singer who has got state awards from multiple states(Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Hindi film music)? He has truly represented India in all musical endeavours and unlike many other musicians who have performed in one style of music only, Yesudas has brought carnatic music to common man through his singing them in films. Yesudas would have got more recognition if he were a north indian or Bollywood singer or a hindustani vocalist. It is unfortunate that this extraordinary singer is not recognized properly. Is high time that we recognize his talents and reward him properly.

Infact if there is a singer who truly deserves it then Yesudas will top the charts.

please give give bharat ratna to rafi saahab also. though he is no more, still he really deserves it. this is also the way of paying tribute to a best singer ever. he has sung many songs which is almost impossible to sing by others such as o duniya ke rakhwale and many more. being a muslim, he has sung many hindu bhajans with deep feelings. if lataji can get this award then rafi saahab should also get.. he is far better than lataji.. rafi saahab is also famous globally as his name had been published in guinees book of record for singing maximum no of songs. so please… please…. please…. give this award to rafi saahab as well as sachin tendulkar also. i would be grateful if this happens…
